Flathead River Fly Fishing

Flathead River Access Update

The recent warm weather has the snow melting and there are finally a couple ramps open to access the river. A BIG thanks to Tony the FWP FAS manager for getting them cleared. We had to shovel the ramp at Old Steel east but we were able to get in and out fine in four wheel. The access and ramp at Teakettle has been cleared as well. Not sure what the Pres Bar looks like…let us know if you hear anything.

Flathead River Fly Fishing Report

The fishing was a little weird today…dead all day until about 2:30 and then one after another for 2 hours. Not sure if it was the spot or time of day or…? None the less, we caught a couple dozen mid sized cutties that made for an entertaining afternoon. Stones and SJ Worms worked well as they always do this time of year. We hopped out of the boat and tossed some spey rods too. A handful of nice fish played along with our swung flies helping to diversify the days tactics. A fine January outing on the Flathead River.
