The 3rd Saturday in May is the MT stream and river opener. It almost always coincides with high water but the last few cold nights gave us a little window. The river is big and pushy and there isn’t a bunch of great water but we managed to find quite a few good fish.
The upper river is fishable but it’s not friendly at this level. There is some new wood. One of our friends from Bigfork flipped his boat up there today and nearly drown. They lost all their gear and the boat is pinned under a log. He is an experienced oarsman…….it can happen to anyone. One mistake is all it takes. Be careful out there and nock on wood.
