Good visibility and lots of salmon flies out on the Blackfoot right now.

Summer has arrived early this year. Temps in the 90’s and a mild run-off have the bugs popping off a few weeks ahead of schedule.  It’s really more like July weather we are experiencing. Pmds, caddis, green drakes, golden stones, and sallies are all out and about. Most of our rivers are in fish-able shape with little to no snow left to melt. We are getting a small surge in flows right now but it wont last long. The C-fork and B-foot are barely showing much of a bump. Salmon flies are out in numbers on the Blackfoot and some fish looking for them. Get it now before the big orange bug turns into a red light…or just fish a golden.

The Flathead gave up some good dry fly fishing before this last push of water brought the river back up. When the weather normalizes it should turn back down and start fishing again, probably with in a week. PMDs are out in force. Limited spots to fish at these higher flows so when you find them stay for a while.

The next few weeks are setting up for some great fishing and hatches. Stop by the shop for a free local river map, some great new fly patterns, or some new BFA logo wear for your evening shenanigans around town.
