Hi 64 °F

Andy mined up this gold nugget a few days ago on a hopper.

General Outlook. We have a cooling trend in the forecast. Look for mayfly and Oct caddis activity to increase. Terrestrial fishing will continue through the month if the weather stays warm but big caddis and cripple patterns are producing better results on cooler days. Especially on the C-fork & B-foot.

Blackfoot River: Traffic and heat has played a role in the last week. Beat those 2 variables and you’ll have good fishing. Hot weather won’t be a factor for the rest of the season most likely. mid sized foamies with a hecuba cripple off the back is a good dry search combo. A #10 parachute will search as good as a hopper. #12 Prince variations off the back of the foam bug will work. Smaller tunghead p-tail variations along some of the slower banks will hang a nice one here and there too.
Bugs / Fly Patterns: hoppers, October Caddis, Hecubas / smaller fuzzies, chubbies, morrish hoppers, fat franks, p-tails, micro mays, Red & Pruple Holo Princes, Oct caddis, Oct caddis poopas, turds, and worms

Lower Clark Fork River: Steady dry fly fishing on the Clark Fork. Large cripples and parachutes are getting good attention. Hoppers are still productive mid afternoon. Fish mayfly stuff on the front rod and a foamie with a dropper off the back rod and you should stay busy enough. The clouds / rain will increase the mayfly activity and should provide some GREAT dry fishing this weekend.
Bugs / Fly Patterns:hoppers, beetles, ants, hecubas, mohos, oct caddis / smaller fuzzies, chubbies, morrish hoppers, fat franks, p-tails, micro mays, Oct caddis, Oct caddis poooopas, turds, and worms

Flathead River: Same old same old. The fish are still eating the foam bug. Better than average size fish coming up too. We’re seeing a few solid 16-18″ fish eat the dry daily. The cooling trend might put a damper on the dry fly fishing in the mornings over the next several days.
Bugs / Fly Patterns: Terrestrials, oct caddis, fall drakes / small pink morrish, little purple franks, ants, small home brewed foam variations, purple holo prince, golden turd

Swan River: The warm weather this past week got the fish looking up again for the big foam bug. We are pretty much sold out of purple if that tells you anything. If you are stroke’n the sweet spot all day with the foam you’ll get some BIG eats. You could be LAME and bobber fish the hell out every hole but the guy behind you will be bummed. Don’t be that guy. Cover the hole and move on so everyone can enjoy.
Bugs / Fly Patterns: Terrestrials, October Caddis, Fall Drakes /  willies ant, Pink morish, whitecloud hopper, chubbies, fuzzy wuzzies, fat franks, PRLs in golden/salmon/black/brown, prince nymphs, SJWs in all flavors, tungsten 20 inchers, DB poxy rubberleg stones.
