General Outlook: The weather has not been the greatest but the colder temps have the rivers all dropping. It looks like we’ll see it warm up by the weekend. Precipitation in the forecast along with warmer weather could get the rivers back on the rise but we’ll just have to wait and see.
Blackfoot River Report: Still cold and flows have been up and down. It’s been on the drop for a few days so you could probably get a few.
Bugs / Fly Patterns: Not many bugs / 20 incher stones, double bead stones, rubber legs, princes, glo bugs, San Juans, beadhead whatevers.
Lower Clark Fork River Report: On the drop for several days now. You could probably bobber up some fish on the stone / worm combo or slow dredging buggers. A buoyant skwala with a deep rubber legs, prince, or SJW dropper is worth a try in the afternoon. Watch the graph, if it continues to drop it should start to fish more consistently.
Bugs / Fly Patterns: Midges, maybe skwalas / Rogue Skwalas, Silveys little olive, Fat Franks, 20 incher stones, double bead stones, rubber legs, princes, glo bugs, San Juans, beadhead whatevers, coffee minnows, urchin buggers, general streamers.
Flathead River Report: Dropping and clearing for several days now. If you don’t mind the wind and sideways snow you can catch some fish. Midging fish have been up in the afternoons on the calmer overcast days or in spots sheltered from the wind. But not everyday. bobber rigs with the usual suspects are productive.
Bugs / Fly Patterns: capnia stones & midges / 20 incher stones, double bead stones, rubber legs, princes, glo bugs, San Juans, beadhead whatevers.
Swan River Report: Upper is closed. The lower is up a little bit so there are probably a few new fish around.
Bugs / Fly Patterns: Not many bugs / 20 incher stones, double bead stones, rubber legs, princes, glo bugs, San Juans, beadhead whatevers.
Other Stuff: The Thompson River and Jocko are always a good spring option. The Bitterroot is about ready to fish great. There have been some good days but generally the last week of March and the first 2 weeks of April are the most reliable for weather and consistent dry fly fishing. And the Missouri of course.
