The Flathead River is out of commission for a while. With temperatures expected to hit the upper 70s later this week, it’s unlikely to shape up anytime soon. Peak runoff typically hits in late May to early June, and conditions usually improve quickly afterward. We generally see fishable water between June 10th and 20th on the Flathead River. Occasionally, a brief cold snap can bring it back into shape for a short window between now and then.

In the meantime, it’s a great opportunity to explore some local lakes. Bass and pike are active and on the feed bag in various lakes and sloughs throughout the Flathead Valley. Lower elevation trout lakes are also fishing well and make for a fun outing—especially for kids or those looking to sharpen their skills.

The shop is open most days and new flies and gear are trickling in. See you soon!
