Rain, snow, high wind, flood advisory, sunny warm and beautiful….a little of everything the last couple weeks. The river flows are all above average and the water temps are a bit cold. We had a few days down on the Bitterroot this week and we caught some good fish but the above average flows, cold water temps, and night time temps in the 20’s put a damper on the dry fly window. We had some skwala eats late in the day but you had to stick with it.
We also snuck up to the Flatfork of the Bitterfoot for a change of scenery and to escape the Bitterroot parade. There was quite a bit of new snow up there. With a high of 38 and a RAW up river wind it was slightly unpleasant. We did find a few fish on streamers and a brief window of BWOs with some risers to target. Hopefully the flows will continue to drop and things will warm up a bit for better dry fly fishing this week.
