General Outlook: The weather over the weekend was fantastic! Fishing has been good too. Local fishing guide Rod Stults sent us the above pic from one of the res streams over the weekend. Sounds like there was a bit a dry fly fishing to be had down there. Some hefty wind and moisture is headed our way so you might want to hunker down and tie some bugs for a couple days. Or put your rain coat on and go fishing. Temps are still going to be close to 50 so it shouldn’t be that bad.
Blackfoot River Report: Still cold and flows have been up and down. There is some color on the lower half of the river. If flows stabilize and we continue getting days in the 50s it should fish decent underneath.
Bugs / Fly Patterns: Not many bugs / 20 incher stones, double bead stones, rubber legs, princes, glo bugs, San Juans, beadhead whatevers.
Lower Clark Fork River Report: On the rise again and not a great option for a few days…
Bugs / Fly Patterns: Midges, maybe skwalas / Rogue Skwalas, Silveys little olive, Fat Franks, 20 incher stones, double bead stones, rubber legs, princes, glo bugs, San Juans, beadhead whatevers, coffee minnows, urchin buggers, general streamers.
Flathead River Report: Had a great report from the Blank to House stretch a couple days ago. Stones and beadheads produced numbers and size. The main river has been fishing well too with nymphs and some dry fly opportunities (midges). The fish are concentrated in winter spots. Nymphing the slower runs and back eddies or slow trolling a streamer with a stone / worm / beadhead off the back works too.
Bugs / Fly Patterns: capnia stones & midges / 20 incher stones, double bead stones, rubber legs, princes, glo bugs, San Juans, beadhead whatevers.
Swan River Report: Upper is closed. The lower and the Bay have been hit and miss but there are some fish around for sure. Brent was out over the weekend and got blanked but we had a decent report of a few caught along the wild mile.
Bugs / Fly Patterns: Not many bugs / 20 incher stones, double bead stones, rubber legs, princes, glo bugs, San Juans, beadhead whatevers.
Other Stuff: The Thompson River is fishing well and is a good option for crappy weather (the car is usually close by). The Jocko is fishing good too and offering a bit of dry fly action on the right day. The Skwalai Lama hasn’t really arrived quite yet but there are some bugs around and few fish willing down on the Root.
