Bigfork Montana Fly Fishing - River Report

Two feet of rainbow tank! Nice peduncle hold too!

General Outlook: Flows are dropping but still big most everywhere. We had a brief window on the upper Swan but it’s closing fast. The warmer nights and rain in the forecast will start things back on the upswing. Our snowpack is much lower than last year so look for things to be back in shape soon.

Swan River Report: The upper river is fishing but not for much longer. It’s high and green with a couple feet of vis. Stonefly nymphs and streamers are the ticket. The Piper Creek access is a mess with construction right now so check our post about it before you go. One of our friends flipped his boat up there yesterday and he is experienced on the oars. Be careful if you go….there is some new wood. The lower river and bay continue to produce fish but not in great numbers. A few big ones have been released. Some lakers around too.
Bugs / Fly Patterns: Caddis, Salmon flies / 20 incher stones, double bead stones, rubber legs, princes, San Juans, beadhead whatevers, urchin buggers, flash fry, skiddish smolt, sparkle minnows.

Other Stuff: The Thompson is dropping and fishing really well. The Little Blackfoot is at a good level and fish are eating caddis up top. The REZ streams are probaly worth a look. The Clearwater is fishing pretty well. Upper Clark Fork looks to be at a good flow.
