General Outlook: The fishing is definately improving with the cooler nights and day time temps. Some fall bugs (hecubas) are starting to show up and work too. Fewer folks out on the rio means reduced pressure and dumber fish so it’s getting easier. Still a little warm today and tomorrow but bankers hours are around the corner.
Blackfoot River Report: Great! Lots of action and some nice fish looking up for a variety of bugs. A hecuba para cripple was getting some nice fish up yesterday. Droppers are still picking up fish too but…..
Bugs / Fly Patterns: Hecubas, terrestrials / Small Chubbies and willies, Fuzzie wuzzies, Hot leg hoppers, White Clouds, Pink Morrish Hoppers, Rainy’s ants, Hippie stompers, Franks, Rogue goldens, Smaller foam variations, hecuba variations, Para haze, Turds, Halo Prince, Da Worm
Lower Clark Fork River Report: Fishing good. Not great but good. Hopper droppers in the am and hoppers in the afternoon. Cast it down river, mend, pick up your slack Mr. Johnson, tip down and point it at your fly….HIT!! You’ll get the next one…
Bugs / Fly Patterns: hecubas, terrestrials / peach white clouds, pink morish, Small Chubbies and willies, Fuzzies, Hippie stompers, Franks, Rogue goldens, Smaller foam variations, Para haze, Quigs, Para caddis, C-duns, Turds, Halo Prince, Da worm
Flathead River Report: Fishing better the last few days with the cooler weather and reduced traffic. Small foam stuff is still working but a smallish parachute or ant of the back is helpful. The Flathead likes cool nights and warm days. Should be pretty good this week.
Bugs / Fly Patterns: terrestrials / Small Chubbies and willies, Fuzzie wuzzies, Hot leg hoppers, White Clouds, Pink Morrish Hoppers, Rainy’s ants, Hippie stompers, Franks, Rogue goldens, Smaller foam variations, Para haze, Quigs, Para caddis, rusty spinners C-duns, Turds, Halo Prince, Da Worm
Swan River Report: The upper river is still hit and miss on the dry for the bigger fish. Droppers work and still give you the chance at a big one on the dry. If you are desperate you can bobber fish with a turd and worm rig. Cooler weather should improve the streamer bite. The lower river is fishing well with the hopper dropper rigs. Water temps are cooling so the lower should get good.
Bugs / Fly Patterns: terrestrials / Small Chubbies and willies, Fuzzie wuzzies, Hot leg hoppers, White Clouds, Pink Morrish Hoppers, Rainy’s ants, Hippie stompers, Franks, Smaller foam variations, Turds, Prince nymphs, streamers
