Flathead River Winter Fly Fishing

A solid Flathead River winter rainbow.

The Flathead River winter fly fishing has been good. Nymphs of course, but it felt like the dry fly thing could happen. It was calm and over cast anyway. We kept our eyes peeled for risers but no such luck. A few nice fish came to the net and a hand full of standard mid sized cutties to pad the stats. Stonefly nymphs and the worm did the trick. We kinda regretted not bringing a streamer rod but we only fished for a couple hours, maybe next time. Tolerable fishing weather is in the forecast. Now that the Big Mtn is beat down from wind and warm weather it’s time to go fishing again.
