Missoula Montana Skwala Fly Fishing

Chris “The Rambler” Mcadams with a decent Clark Fork River Skwala eater.

We spent that last couple days guiding on the Bitterroot. The warmer weather has the fish looking for the skwala dry pretty good in the afternoons, sporadic before about 2pm. The dropper fishing is very productive in the right spots…. the lazy water. Lots of boats on the river so good luck avoiding the skwala army…try the Clark Fork if you don’t want to fish with 12 other boats, a float tube, a canoe, and a few pontooners…

A couple of our guide friends fished the Clark Fork (around town and St Regis area) yesterday and had some dry fly fishing for a couple hours in the afternoon. It sounds like you can piece together a decent day of fishing with various tactics, including some skwala dry fly action. Droppers, streamers, and tandem nymphs got some fish too. Hopefully the cool nights will keep flows steady…
