Flathead River Cutthroat

A stud Flathead River cutthroat that ate a fall caddis dry.

It’s nice to see some bigger fish showing up on the Flathead main-stem recently. This one was caught at the boat ramp 3 minutes from the airport…The Flathead is one of the last strong holds for Native westslope cutthroat like this one. Now through April is the best time to catch fish like this on the main-stem Flathead River as they migrate to and from the lake. This one must have ran the gauntlet of lake trout and pike out to the lake and somehow made it back. Good for him! Hopefully some of his offspring have the same luck…
