We have had guide boats out on all of our western rivers the last few days – Swan, Flathead, Clarkfork, Bitterroot, and Blackfoot. We are catching fish on all of these drainages and even seeing some moments of good dry fly fishing when conditions line up.

The Flathead is high and fishing has been tough. We are finding some fish in a few spots and have seen some dry fly fishing on PMDs in the afternoon but is not great yet. It’s getting close but unfortunately the forecast is calling for heavy rain. The South Fork is way above average as they are releasing water in anticipation of several inches of rain over the next few days. It looks like Flathead flow predictions have already downgraded from their original prediction so hopefully they will start to cut back flows soon. Once it drops back closer to 20k we should see some great dry fly fishing.

The Blackfoot and Clark Fork are both fishing decently but are also projected to see a big hikes in flows that will likely crap them out again for several more days. For now all we can do is go fishing while we wait and watch.
