This is somewhat of a re-post about the Bulky. It seems like a large majority of the incidental bull trout we catch in the Swan are hybrids. Here you can easily identify brook trout markings on this juvenile bull. According to the FWP these hybrids are sterile and technically a hybrid, so is it legal to fish for them and keep them? This was a question I got in the shop and couldn’t find an answer for. Looks like another grey area. We promote catch and release for all wild trout and see a potential problem in the future for the hook’m and cook’m crowd who can’t really identify bull trout.

If vermiculations, cook em? It seems to me that sterile hybrids although fun to catch, require a portion of biomass that ought to go to any full blooded bulls further sustaining the population.
Good point. There sure are a ton of hybrids up there. I wonder if they are all sterile?
