A wide one…

Rivers flows have been up and down with the warm and cold weather yoyo the last few weeks – blue wings one day and salmon flies the next. If you paid attention to the graphs, and have a few spots in your back pocket, then you were probably able to sneak out to one of our freestoners and find some quality fishing recently.  It isn’t every year we get good fishing conditions in May on our freestone rivers, but when it happens, it can produce some of the best fish of the season. We all love the Missouri and know it produces great fishing straight through runoff, but pulling a rabbit out of your hat on the Blackfoot or Lower Clark Fork in May is far more rewarding…and a bit closer to home.

The MT general stream opener is this weekend and it just might coincide with stable flows. The weather is going to warm up a bit but maybe not enough to bring the rivers back on a steep rise. Keep your fingers crossed and watch the graphs, there’s lots of water opening this Sat…
