Spring fishing has arrived. We had good dry fly fishing in the afternoon yesterday on the main-stem Flathead. Lots of little dark bodied spring stone flies coming off and quite a few fish up in a couple riffles. A small olive body/grey wing simulator worked every time it got a good drift. We should have a nice window of spring fishing here before flows come up. Give us a call if you want to take a jet boat ride with one of our USCG captains. It’s a great way to get around this time of year. Or just quietly float along in a drift boat if that’s what you prefer. Either way we have some hungry guides chomping at the bit to shovel some water.
We’ve also been trying to force feed the skwala to some fish on the Bitterroot. It hasn’t been great dry fly fishing but you can catch a few. Or you can throw worms… Flows have stabilized since the recent spike so it should continue to get better. I think I counted 21 trailers at Stevi this afternoon. That doesn’t help much but it was a beautiful spring weekend so that’s what you can expect.

I had a GREAT experience learning how to fly fish from Jason Lanier! I fully expected to be frustrated and probably not catch much of anything. WRONG! Jason was an excellent teacher giving simple, easy to understand instruction before we started, then consistently well-placed corrections and additional information as the day progressed. I highly recommend Bigfork Anglers for anybody who wants the best chance at a fun, successful fly fishing experience!
